TV Crew at Empty
Prop 8 Courthouse on Eve of Ruling?

On my way home in the light drizzle tonight from the Embarcadero YMCA, I didn't expect to see a KTVU news van parked on the Mission Street side of the federal courthouse. That's where the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will make its ruling on the latest legal decision in the Prop 8 gay marriage lawsuit, tomorrow at 10 am.

Seemed a bit odd that the station would do a live report from the dark and empty courthouse, versus the standard location in the Castro neighborhood with the Castro Theater's brightly-lit marquee decorating the background of the shot.

It's gonna be a zoo at Mission and 7th Streets on Tuesday starting early in the morning, with a hundred or two media animals, political activists of all stripes, police and traffic officers all waiting for the court's decision. The storm predicted for the morning will add to the mess.

The presence of the KTVU news van tonight down at the courthouse is just one more example of the intense media attention the decision will generate tomorrow.
