Komen's Brinker Gave to
Gay Ex-GOP Rep Foley
You sometimes really don't have to dig very deep to find a gay-related angle to almost any big news story.
An example is the case with Nancy Brinker, the founder and leader of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the nonprofit breast cancer organization that ignited a furnace-hot controversy when it cut off fund to Planned Parenthood last week.
I checked her Federal Election Commission records and as expected for this longtime GOP-friendly executive director and Dubya's former ambassador to Hungary, the bulk of her donations went to Republican candidates and PACs.
Of the $186,000 in total donations, 98% of checks from Brinker went to GOP pols and PACs, and just $3,750 went to a Democratic candidate.
Brinker gave disgraced gay and former GOP U.S. Representative Mark Foley $8,400 during his career in Congress. Her contributions may have been due to the fact that he was her House representative and possibly good pals.
Whatever Brinker's motivation was, I want to sunshine her FEC file and bring a small dose of additional transparency to her various political agendas and who receives money from her.
