BAR: Party or Protest on Castro Street Tonight?

The BAR blog reports preparations are underway at the crossroads of gay America, for a street gathering later tonight. Of course, it's not know yet if it will be a rousing rally of celebration, or an angry protest:

All eyes will be on the Castro tonight (Tuesday, November 4), and people are expected to gather for a celebration - or protest, depending on Election Day results.

Many in the LGBT community are eager to see the defeat of Proposition 8, which would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California, and the election of Democrat Barack Obama as president.

The event will begin when it gets dark. Weather permitting, election results will be broadcast on a large, outdoor video screen.

DJs David Harness, Liam Shy, and friends will be providing music, should a celebration be in order.

The event will take place on Castro Street between 18th and Market streets. Organizer Joshua Smith, president of San Francisco Lovefest, said the street will be closed off, but that could not immediately be confirmed with police ...
