Gays to Dump Vodka at Stoli PR Event: Beatbox SF, 8/14 at 7P

Leaders of the BoycottRussianVodka Facebook campaign and Gays Without Borders will be outside the San Francisco edition of the SPI Group's publicity event this week, to promote the boycott of the firm's Stolichnaya brand and all Russian vodkas.

What: Stoli Dump

Where: BeatBox SF

Location: 314 Eleventh Street, near Folsom

When: Wednesday, August 14

Time: 7:00 PM

Since the passage of Russia's dangerous anti-LGBT laws and an increase in violence against gay people in the country, Western gays and allies have mounted a successful boycott of all Russian vodkas.

Stoli's owner, the SPI Group, maintains and hopes to expand its share of gay bar profits through Original Stoli Guy contests this summer in 15 American cities. The pageant in New York City was protested by the AIDS group ACT UP.

The SPI Group has partnered with GayCities.com and Queerty.com for the pageants. Researchers with Queer Nation have produced a fact-sheet regarding the alcohol giant's direct Russian links to Stolichnaya vodka.

The August 14 contest in San Francisco will be picketed outside the bar, and BoycottRussianVodka and Gays Without Borders encourage boycott supporters in the remaining contest cities this week, San Diego and Dallas, to mobilize protests.
