Kate Kendell's Heard Prop 8 Criticism:
Now What?

Three weeks ago today, Kate Kendell, the longtime executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, who also was part of the troika of CA gay leaders who guided Prop 8 to pass in November, wrote a tepid and vague blog entry dancing around the issues of what she did wrong on the campaign. Her piece was titled "We Hear You - Now What?"

Basically, Kendell and the crew at NCLR wanted to divert the attention of the community away from the loud demands for accountability, and instead shifted the focus to the state Supreme Court and getting busy sending letters to newspapers. Yes, anything other than hold Kendell and her Prop 8 colleagues, Lorri Jean and Geoff Kors, was what she was asking for from the pissed off community.

A sampling of Kendell's approach to non-accountability, from her blog:

We need you to talk to your friends and family, attend rallies and marches, post and comment on blogs, and write letters to the editor. As you do, please remember to applaud the Court and remind your audience of the threat that Prop 8 represents.

Well, three weeks on and Kendell hasn't updated her blog. Is she taking a vacation, or just maintaining silence, as the community in San Francisco accepts that Kendell and Kors will not be holding any town halls with local gays to discuss what went wrong and how to learn from their terrible mistakes?

Hey Kate, I wish I could say I hear you, but you're not saying anything anymore. Have you taken a vow of silence and abstinence from organizing a public forum?

I have a sinking feeling the window of (weak) accountability from Kendell and Kors closed and that all the San Francisco community will get in the future in terms of accountability from these two are tepid and diversionary blog entries.
