(The mailer that started hitting CA mailboxes on Friday.)

SF Mayor Denounces Yes on 8/Obama Mailer

My friend, and longtime gay community photographer, Bill Wilson sent over this photo, which he took this morning, of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom at Glide Memorial Methodist Church in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Very pleased to see Gavin deploring the direct mail piece with all his boy-king fury.

The No on 8 leadership has issued a statement calling the mailer deceptive. They've also created a TV spot, that clearly must be in response to the mailer, because it showcases Obama's visage, as "No on 8" and "divisive and discriminatory" appear on the screen. Click here to view the spot.

I extend much credit to the campaign leaders for the rapid response and including our next president's handsome face in a television ad pushing a NO vote on Prop, and also scratch my head and ask why his word and image weren't used sooner.

No word if the direct mail piece has been denounced on the Obama/Biden web site yet.

Hey Bill Wilson, thanks for getting the shot of Gavin railing against the mailer. Go here to see more of Bill's photos.

Uh, didn't Obama say he was opposed to gay marriage. I distinctly remember Biden in the VP debate saying that they were... Or was that just typical DEMOCRATIC PARTY deception, where they say one thing but mean another?

Why would the Obama campaign denounce the flier, when the Obama campaign does not support gay marriage?

Obama did say that he was opposed to gay marriage.

Of course, I think he's lying through his teeth in order to get elected, but he did say it.

Both Obama and Biden are on record as opposing gay marriage.

First, opposing gay marriage is not the same as supporting a constitutional amendment to ban it. I oppose gay marriage (as a matter of linguistics, not as a matter of law or morality), but still will vote down prop 8.

Yes, but it's still discriminatory to point that out, because they didn't point out the same thing about McCain and Palin. In that mailer. See.

    Yeah, that's the ticket.

So in otherwords, a vote for Obama is also a vote for an opportunistic liar? Is that what Gavin N. is suggesting? Obama did indeed say it. So where is the deception? Oh, in the No on 8 TV ad now featuring Obama? Make up your mind, boys!

But both Obama and Biden are also on record as opposing Prop 8 because you don't have to be for gay marriage to understand that it is wrong to strip people of their rights. Currently I can marry the person I love. Wednesday I might not be able to if Prop 8 passes.

I just say Biden on Ellen Degenerous'(?) show srongly state both he and "the one" oppose Prop 8. Seems the Dems position depends on the audience.

I, uh, I don't think that Proposition 8 is a good idea. The gay community strongly supports me, and uh, until I'm elected, I strongly support them. Both Joe and I, strongly support them.
But I also have strong support from, uh, the African-American Christians, and they oppose gay marriage by a large majority. So until I am elected, I also oppose gay marriage, by a large majority.
So, is that clear? I consistently support that which will get me elected, and consistently oppose that which will keep me from being elected. There is no discrepancy here that I see.
    Or that Joe sees.

Um, isn't "preaching" politics from the pulpit illegal? If the mayor of SF wants to give a sermon, that's one thing, but if he just wants to schmooze a key demographic, that's another.

Doesn't anyone care about the law in SF anymore???

  12. Let's find out what Obama has said about this, mmmmkay?

According to the Sac Bee, Obama opposes same-sex unions, but favors letting states decide.

However, he opposes Prop. 8, which would outlaw same-sex unions.

In other words, he opposes gays getting married, and opposes banning it.

    Got it?

Obviously, the Messiah works in mysterious ways.

And you want to elect this guy president?

  13. So, Newson will denounce the mailer, but he won't denounce Obama for saying the words on the flyer.

    Got it.

So,was Obama against discrimination before he was for it?

Or is it OK for him to deny gays their claim to civil rights because he's a leftwinger, like it was OK for Clinton to be a womanizing sexual harrasser because he supported abortion?
