Plea Deal Reached in Wiener Phone Theft Crime

I seriously doubt the San Francisco police force and the district attorney's office dedicate significant amounts of resources and staff time, when ordinary citizens are the victims of such crimes.

The public defender's office today informed of these developments:

"Just wanted to let you know that LaSonya Wells (Scott Wiener phone snatching) has accepted a plea deal. She pleaded to one count of extortion, a felony. It should be noted that she was originally charged with kidnapping---a life in prison charge. Judge threw it out.

"In exchange, prosecutors dropped the robbery charge, which was a strike. Her sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Feb. 16 in Dept. 23. Her sentence is expected to be three years at half time. So, with time served, she would likely be out in five months."

When it comes to criminal justice in San Francisco, Lady Justice lifts up her blindfold to see who the victim is.

The photo shows Wells with her assistant public defender Yali Corea-Levy back in the summer of 2016.
