Who's Vetting Candidates to be SF's New Police Chief?

As the process to hire a police chief for the City continues, I want to know what the contract spells out with the headhunter agency Ralph Anderson and Associates conducting the search, so I filed a public records request for it with the San Francisco Police Department.

No responsive records were found, as explained in an email from Lt. Katherine Waaland of their legal division, because it's the responsibility of the Department of Human Resources to solicit applications from candidates.

Waaland told me in phone conversation this morning that DHR handles vetting of potential City employees and that SFPD isn't conducting the search for a new chief, neither is the police commission.

I've filed a new public records request, this time with DHR, for their contract and related documents with Ralph Anderson and Associates, to read what precisely are the expectations of the firm and how much the City is paying them for their services.

Btw, the police commission meets tomorrow, Wednesday, August 10, starting at 5:30 pm at City Hall in room 400 and an update on the search is on the agenda.

Let's keep shining a few lights on how Mayor Ed Lee and City Hall are working to find a new chief of police.
