SF Symphony: We Proudly Support Global LGBT Community

It gives me much satisfaction to announce that Oliver Theil, the communications director for the SF Symphony, today shared this message with our group Gays Without Borders, in response to our petition (signatures still welcomed) requesting they dedicate the September concert to Russia's LGBT citizens:

While we are unable to formally dedicate tomorrow night’s performance to the cause, the San Francisco Symphony proudly supports the entire LGBT community, both here in San Francisco and around the world. As you know, much of the music we make was written by composers to express messages of freedom and equality and it is our hope that audiences who hear Tchaikovsky’s music are transformed and empowered by it.

Since early August, Gays Without Borders has collaborated with out cultural icons actor Sir Ian McKellen, above, and sopranos Patricia Racette and her wife Beth Clayton, to show solidarity with gay Russians.

Now, we add the SF Symphony to the list of local arts organizations that offer a gesture of support for our campaign on behalf of gay people around the world.
