SF Pride Reschedules Cancelled Meeting for July 16

[UPDATED: See below]

While talking on the phone with my friend and community photographer Bill Wilson about why I believe Supervisor David Campos needs to schedule a City Hall hearing or two about the myriad problems with SF Pride, this email from Earl Plante the CEO of the group arrived. It included a note from Joey Cain who is among many LGBT activists demanding accountability from SF Pride:

We are rescheduling meeting to next Tuesday...statement coming out shortly.

Joey Cain wrote: What about the nominations for the Board of Directors that the corporation's bylaws requires to be opened at the July General Planning Meeting?

Plante was following up on his announcement yesterday that the July meeting scheduled for tonight had been cancelled.

My gut feeling is that Campos will continue to avoid exercising his power as a Supervisor to hold SF Pride accountable with City Hall hearings about the City money they receive and how City agencies perform over Pride weekend. He wants to run for state assembly next year and wants to avoid doing anything more about the Pride problems beyond showing up as a "private citizen" at community forums or news conferences organized by activists.

If there is to be genuine change at SF Pride, it's going to take many avenues of organizing - new members joining the group, a change at the board of directors level and City Hall hearings.

Let's hope Campos decides to use his Supervisorial privileges to schedule much-needed hearings and air them on SF Gov TV.

UPDATE: SF Pride is circulating this invitation:
