JoeMyGLAAD Silent on Group's Meltdown

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation continues to face withering criticism from many parts of the gay blogosphere because of its controversial and shifting positions on net neutrality and the AT&T/T-Mobile merger, and letters sent to or retracted from the Federal Communications Commission.

See here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here for some background on this latest GLAAD mess.

One blog where you won't find a word about all of this is at Joe Jervis' site JoeMyGod, which was the recipient of GLAAD's first-ever outstanding gay blog award earlier this year. In case anyone forgets about this dubious honor, Joe's Twitter page reminds folks as does his blog:

If you search JMG for posts related to GLAAD, you'll find they all follow this pattern: GLAAD said. Period. Never is heard a discouraging word from Joe about the group that gave him an award.

However, in response to my post last week questioning if Joe should return the award, he had this to say in emails to me:

cuntface strikes again ... please leave me out of this for once ... seriously though, why single ME out on this? ... I have my own issues with GLAAD on some topics, but overall the net effect they have is for good. How would we "benefit" without a media watchdog
group calling out the networks?

That last sentence is in response to me telling Joe the community would greatly benefit if GLAAD went out of business today.

Joe clearly is comfortable accepting an award from GLAAD and giving them an un-challenging platform on his blog. I hope he soon enough adds his voice to the other gay bloggers and community leaders demanding accountability and transparency from GLAAD.

We gays are in dire need of watchdogs keeping Gay Inc groups accountable.
