[This letter snail mailed to Renne today.]

June 4, 2004

Louise Renne
Police Commission
850 Bryant Street
San Francisco, CA 94103

Dear Ms. Renne:

I attended the June 2 meeting of the commission and during public comment suggested that commission meetings be broadcast as they happen on the San Francisco Government TV outlet, channel 26.

As you may recall, other members of the public applauded when I made my suggestion, which I believe shows some degree of support for airing the meetings live on public access television.

Since the commission now meets regularly in Room 400 of City Hall, and the hearing room is fully equipped with cameras, it should be a simple matter of flipping a switch to broadcast the meetings.

This letter is a formal request to you, as president of the police commission, and other members of the body, to immediately begin airing all commission meetings.

Doing so would greatly aid the public, the commission, the police department, the press, police accountability activists, along with the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors, in better understanding the workings of the commission and the police force.

I can see no reason why the commission meetings should not be broadcast on SFGTV, channel 26, and hope to soon watch commission meetings on television.

I look forward to a prompt reply.

Sincerely,
Michael Petrelis
